The Sunday Salon: The Return to Regular Programming

Now that Book Blogger Appreciation Week is over, I find myself a bit antsy and twitchy and unable to focus. Bloggers around the blogosphere call it a hangover of sorts, I just feel like a runner that is waiting for the gun to go off. Bam!

I paced myself well over the week. A little blogging, a little blog reading…more blogging…more blog reading but very little BOOK reading. So today is all about reading. The two books that I am reading right now:

Of Bees and Mist (review copy)
Goldengrove (review copy for an upcoming TLC book tour)

I’ve got other books going as well but these are the ones I plan to start today. Aren’t the covers gorgeous? They remind me of fall and right now, with it being 100 degrees outside, I need to be reminded of fall.

Tonight I am making meatloaf and mashed potatoes for our sunday supper. We tend to eat comfort food around here on Sundays so that is what’s on the menu tonight. For those that are following the Game On Diet, this is my free day πŸ˜‰

On a personal note, on Wednesday, my son is auditioning for a couple of parts in Lil’ Abner so he’s been walking around practicing his lines and my daughter, the one with the photographic memory, has already memorized all of HIS lines just from listening to him. For those that are familiar with the musical, he is auditioning for Pappy Yokum and Available Jones. I sure hope he gets ones of these.

Anyway, what’s on your plate for today?

  1. Your dinner sounds great–I might just have to make that tomorrow!

I haven't been getting nearly enough reading done this past week either. The review books are coming faster than I can read them to begin with; I certainly can't be slowing down on the reading!

  2. Comfort food for BBAW hangover weekend. Genius (and making me hungry)! I am also about to start Goldengrove for Book Club Girl's chat this week, and am very excited about it as I am a big Francine Prose fan. Did you read Blue Angel? Happy reading!

  3. It is a hangover. And you know what they say about getting over a hangover, and the hair of the dog…

We had a spiral ham and homemade mac and cheese tonight. Major comfort! I just need to get caught up on my blogging now. I wonder if I will ever really catch up!

  4. I didn't get much reading done last week either and haven't had a chance to this weekend either. I'm sure hoping for a slow down next week. Good luck to your talented son!

  5. Dinner sounds divine.. the books sound good too… my first thought was as Sandy's.. "the hair of the dog.." so just keep doing more blogging… it is like slamming a bloody Mary or beer the morning after.. not that I know of these things.. LOL..

  6. It was really beautiful here today until about dinner time when it suddenly cooled off and started to rain. It was definitely FALL by dark. And I bet it stays that way around here.

I love meatloaf, but we never have it.

  7. That dinner sounds great! Also, I'm really interested to hear what you think of the Francine Prose book. For me, she's really inconsistent–I either love or hate her books!

  8. Well my reading had been in a slump, but now it has taken off again. I am having the usual challenge of balancing blogging, reading, reading blogs, being a mom, being a wife, and sewing/quilting/knitting–nothing new on that front.

We are having comfort foods in the crockpot everynight this week. We are having Chili tomorrow-even though it will be in the 80's the first half of the week here.
Your book covers do look gorgeous and I look forward to reading your reviews.

  9. Good luck to your son! My girls all do theater (one is an acting major in college, in fact) and, coincidentally, my youngest just finished appearing in a community theater production (for teens to age 20) of"Children of Eden." She was Eve — and it was SUCH a good production. She, of course, was great! It was her first really big part.

Seems to me I've read a bit about Goldengrove. I'll have to give it a closer look. I'm all over the place with my reading these days. Sunday was devoted to the play — I took my mom and we went out for dinner afterwards. I like the sounds of your dinner! I love meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

One book I'm reading is a memoir, covering the death of a child and how it impacts the entire family. It's called "Replacement Child," by Judy Mandel. She is that child, born after her sister dies when a plane crashes into their house. It starts out "I was born of fire." (And it has a really cool cover, too — and I don't usually go on about such details.)

It's riveting — and throughout the memoir you see that love is the powerful healer we know it to be, and a vehicle for forgiveness.

I hope you son knocks 'em dead!

  10. I'm just catching up with some of the posts today – I'm very behind if you couldn't tell. πŸ™‚

Good luck to your son in his auditions!

  11. Those are very pretty covers!

And you're back to Game On'ing? I should really do that again. I said I would and then my life kind of derailed. I'll see if I can do it for October. I need it!

  12. BBAW was so much fun but I too didn't read too much. I see you are starting on Of Bees and Mist. I thoroughly enjoyed that book. Look closely at the cover. There are all sorts of symbols from the book. It adds to the whole experience. Hope you enjoy it too.

  13. How did your son's audition go, Ti? I hope well. I know what you mean about the lack of book reading that takes place during BBAW. I'm looking forward to reading Of Bees and Mist. I hope you have a great weekend!
