The Sunday Salon: End of School Edition!

This past week was busy! It was the last week of school for my kids so there were parties, and awards and a Kindergarten grad ceremony to attend. As you can see from the picture, she is quite excited about being a 1st grader now. Yes! I got to go!

They both start summer day camp on Monday so that means that I have to pack lunches! UGH. They normally buy lunches at school so packing lunches is a chore that I am not used to doing. I will have to tack on a few more minutes to my morning routine to make time for it.

Last night I had trouble sleeping. I could not for the life of me fall asleep so I got up and had a mini read-a-thon! I finished Foreign Tongue (review will be posted tomorrow). I also read a good chunk of Sunnyside Blues (it grabbed me early on) and to top it off, I read a few chapters of The Shadow of the Wind. None of these books put me to sleep though (a good thing I suppose) so I was even more awake in the end. I slept a total of an hour or two tops.

Right now I am sitting here with a cup of Tazo’s Green Ginger tea and a toasted cheese bagel. Yum. The sky has patches of blue this morning so perhaps we’ll get some sun today. The Hub and Boy went to help a friend move so I am home with my daughter just trying to figure out my day. I know laundry is on the list but hopefully not much else. I would really like to just sit and finish Sunnyside Blues.

What’s going on today in your neck of the woods and more importantly, what are you reading?

  1. I am SO sorry that you did not get a good night's sleep! Perhaps a Sunday nap is in store for you?

Glad you were able to get in some good reading, though. I really want to start The Shadow of the Wind too. Perhaps in September.

  2. Yay! I'm so glad to see that you made it to the graduation!

I hope you are able to get more sleep tonight. I can't imagine trying to function on that little sleep. Great that you got so much reading done though!

  3. I am so glad you made it to the graduation Ti. That's such a great pic of your daughter-she looks so happy.

Well I should be doing laundry but no-I'm reading a few blogs right now and then will move on to reading a book. I'm way behind with getting preoccupied with everything else.

  4. I'm so glad you got to go to your daughter's ceremony. A good book keeps me awake too. I hope you sleep better tonight.

  5. How adorable, Ti! Your daughter is so beautiful.

I can't wait to read your review of Foreign Tongue. πŸ™‚ You know I loved it!

  6. Can't wait to read your reviews on Foreign Tongue and Sunnyside Blues. I have read and reviewed both. I thought that Sunnyside was a different read and I liked it, overall. I wasn't as thrilled with F.T., but Lisa at Books on the Brain loved it.

  7. I'm still in Portland, but I've been finding time to read. Last night I stayed up late reading The Hunger Games (has your son read that one?). Now I'm reading The Widow's Season.

  8. Well, at least you weren't sleepless on a work night! πŸ˜‰ I have not heard of these books you mentioned but everyone else seems to have–I guess I am always a day late to the party!

I did not do a TSS post this weekend–took a nap today instead. I am right in the middle of reading Fair and Tender Ladies by Lee Smith and finding it hard to put down–I love a good character driven novel. πŸ™‚
Have a happy Monday and oh, here is my helpful tip for the day, we make lunches the night before because there is no way I can squeeze more into my not-a-morning person routine! πŸ˜‰

  9. Wow, you are a good reader.I've been distracted lately by yard work and photography and not reading as much as I'd like. I usually read more in the summer though, when I can sit out on the deck and relax. I just started my giveaway book! The end of the school year is fun, busy, but fun:)

  10. Good luck packing lunches! I do it every school day and, let me tell you, it IS stressful! Everyday I'm at a loss as to what to make. If it were possible I'd make them the same lunch everyday, lol.

  11. My mom's school year doesn't finish until this Thursday. She's ready for the year to end just as much as the kids are, I am sure. LOL

Hubby and I have this week off from work. His folks and brother were in town this past weekend and are now off visiting friends. They'll return mid-week before heading home officially. I'm hoping to do more reading than I normally am able to fit in, but we'll see how that turns out. πŸ™‚

Have a great week and I hope you were able to sleep better last night.

  12. Congrats to your daughter on graduating kindergarten. I think it's cute when they have graduation ceremonies like that. SO glad to hear that you were able to make it!! Hoping that you have caught up on your sleep!

  13. Well…I am sort of commenting in backward fashion. Love that picture of your little first grader.. she is darling.

I have read both of your reviews. WAY to go.. and way to make the most of insomnia. Very product and awesome reviews.
