The Sunday Salon: March 22, 2009

When I woke up this morning, it was raining quite a bit. I tend to get a lot done when it is raining, but now just an hour later, the clouds are gone, the rain is gone and it is sunny out. My family gets stir crazy when the weather is so nice out. I still have a lot to do though so I must get to it.

My son got a callback today for The Wizard of Oz. He was called back for Toto. Yep, a kid is playing Toto and Toto even gets to fly. Pretty cool, huh? He’ll be at auditions for three hours today so I will either drop him off and then go to Starbucks to catch-up on stuff or drop him off and then come home and try to do stuff here. I’m liking the Starbucks idea.

This week I only reviewed one book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw. You can read the review here. I really enjoyed the book and my son really likes the series. It’s one of the few series he actually looks forward to so I am all for that.

I’m really re-thinking my reading list. I have a lot of large books, 700+ pages lined up and when I read large books like that, they tend to require all of my attention so I can’t read other books along with them. This has slowed me down quite a bit and I find myself falling behind. However, I have 100 pages of Drood left which I am going to finish today. After that, I have an immediate reading list that I need to get through and then I will be all caught up. I am going to push the larger books to the summer when things are a bit more laid back. We’ll see how that works when the time comes.

As for tonight, I have some 80’s movies all lined up. I am in an 80’s mood and plopping down to watch some mindless TV seems very appealing to me right now. I am thinking Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Secret of My Success. Hoping the Hub will cook something on the grill too.

Of course, while I am watching these movies I will be reviewing summer day camps as I have not enrolled the kids in a program yet and if I don’t soon, they won’t have anyplace to go!

What’s going on in your world today?

Warm and Fuzzy All Over Again

When I started this blog in February 2008, I didn’t really intend to have anyone else actually read it. If you read some of my earlier posts from those days, you’ll see that I signed my name at the bottom like a letter or something. I was such a goob. You can see an example of this here and here. Also notice that there aren’t any comments. I was just talking to myself back then.

So when I get awards such as this one, I am flabbergasted. Melissa over at Melissa’s Bookshelf was kind enough to award me with this Proximidade award. I have gotten to know Melissa through her posts and comments and I really enjoy her blog. If you haven’t visited her blog please do so!

Here’s a little about the award:

“This blog invests and believes in the PROXIMITY-nearness in space, time and relationships. These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement! Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this clever-written text into the body of their award.”

I know how busy everyone is with their reading lists and life in general so please do not feel obligated to post about this. However, I do want to mention some blogs that I feel really go out of their way to contribute to the book blogging community whether it’s through their blog, Facebook or even Twitter. I’m sure you know of them already and they have probably been awarded this award three times over but here you go:
