Mystery Trip Revealed!

As many of you know, this past Friday was my 40th birthday and my husband planned a surprise weekend trip. He never does stuff like this. I usually have to buy my own present or tell him specifically what I want. I really had no idea what was planned until my son’s teacher saw me at pick-up on Friday and said “Bye!! Have a wonderful weekend on the Queen Mary!”. So that’s where I was going!

For those that don’t know, the Queen Mary is a ship that was built in the 1930’s and made about 1000 voyages before coming home to Long Beach, California, where she is now permanently anchored. Once a bustling sea vessel, she is now a hotel that is heavily booked for weddings and banquets. Her draw?? Well, she is known to be haunted and during this time of the year and into November, most of her bread and butter comes from tour income.

After checking in and unpacking we headed out to dinner. We hit a restaurant called McKenna’s On The Bay and let me tell you, it was fantastic! It was fancy and the food was delicious but kid friendly and not snooty at all. I hate snooty restaurants. When we got to our table, I found flowers and balloons waiting for me and we had a view of of the sunset. It could not have been more perfect. Well, it could have been if my daughter had not boycotted her pasta but I digress.

My husband also presented me with two robin’s egg blue boxes and you know what that means! Tiffany! He got me a beautiful necklace and a bracelet too. My love for all things Tiffany started with the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s which is based on Truman Capote’s novel of the same name. If you haven’t seen that movie, please do.

The rest of the weekend was spent at the Aquarium of the Pacific and just checking out the local sites. The only down side was the constant banging of old pipes in our stateroom. When we mentioned it to the front desk staff they said it was paranormal activity . Whatever it was, it was freaking us out.

I think my husband did well with the planning. I still can’t believe he did it all on his own. I think I’ll keep him.

  1. Hurray for the husband! Sounds like he did a spectacular job for his first time.I’m glad you had a wonderful birthday weekend!

  2. Happy Birthday to you – and extra points to your husband for planning such a nice getaway (yes, the balloon, flowers and Tiffany boxes earn him an automatic A+). It’s nice that your kids were included in the celebration.
