The Week Ahead: December 15-21, 2008

As Christmas approaches, I’m finding that things are starting to wind down for me. I still have a couple of social commitments but not nearly as many as the past few weeks. For this I am grateful.

Here’s what my week looks like (I’m going off of memory since I forgot my Daytimer):

Monday, December 15, 2008 – It’s raining here. It never rains so the commute this morning was a bit of a challenge. I am working on a special project here at work so that should occupy most of my time today. At lunch, I plan to read some more of The Rest of Her Life, by Laura Moriarty. I’m liking it so far. Tonight I have to go grocery shopping during my son’s rehearsal. I HATE grocery shopping. Especially in the pouring rain.

Tuesday, December 16, 2008 – Nothing going on today besides work and more work. Tried to arrange dinner with a friend but it didn’t pan out. I think I may finish my Christmas cards this evening. I am still looking for stocking stuffers too. You know…so I can tell Santa what to bring. Wink. Wink.

Wednesday, December 17, 2008 – I’m taking a professional development class today (Camtasia) and I also have a meeting this afternoon. Today is also the day for Book Club Girl’s on-air chat with Laura Moriarty who is the author of The Rest of Her Life. The book that had me at page one. For more info on the chat, click here. It’s supposed to snow today according to the weather channel. Unheard of!

Thursday, December 18, 2008 – Absolutely nothing going on besides work stuff. I plan to spend the evening on the couch with soup and a book.

Friday, December 19, 2008 – This is my planned day off so I can tie-up loose holiday ends. However, my son has been scheduled for surgery so I need to take him to a pre-op appointment this morning. As far as surgeries go, this one is minor but he is going to have general anesthesia for the first time so I’m a bit nervous. His sister had to be put under once and she did not respond well and had to be manually revived for over 20 minutes. Scary. His surgery is scheduled for Jan 5th. Good thoughts would be appreciated.

The Weekend: On Saturday we plan to visit the cemetery so we can spend some time with loved ones that are no longer with us. On Sunday, we are going to see the Holiday Toy Express. It’s a train that is decorated for the season and includes a 20 minute show. It’s got Santa on board as well as his elves. We see it every year and it’s a lot of fun. I should have a picture or two to share later.

See? My week is beginning to resemble that of a normal person’s week. Whew! What about you? Winding up or winding down?

The Sunday Salon: December 14, 2008

Sigh. Big sigh. This was the first weekend where I had a chance to just sit back and relax a bit. We expected a huge storm to hit, but it never panned out. Worked for me because we didn’t make any huge plans because of it so we just wandered around town a bit looking at Christmas lights and then went to a live Nativity scene which we go to each year.

Later tonight our close friends are coming over for dinner and a Christmas exchange. We decided to order in so no cooking involved! It’s nice to keep things simple sometimes. On that note, I think I will re-work some things for next year to simplify the season a bit. Things this year were a bit complicated and I just haven’t had a chance to savor any one thing. That’s not what the holiday is supposed to be about and it’s bringing me down a bit.

On a book note, I am reading The Rest of Her Life by Laura Moriarty. I’m reading it for Book Club Girl’s discussion which will take place this Wednesday. This book had me at page one. I have not read a book lately that has been able to do that. I am glued to it and cannot put it down. I’m looking forward to finishing up stuff around the house so I can get back to it.

There are still two items I need to pick-up as far as gifts, but it’s looking like I may go the gift card route. I can handle that. I just want to be done! What about you? Are you done with your shopping?
