Everyone loves a rock star right? I spent the entire day yesterday sitting and reading. That’s hard to do with children in the house so my son gave his old iPod Shuffle to his sis and off she went. She was gone for awhile. After about 30 minutes of her not requesting a fruit snack or juice box I went looking for her. I found her on the stairs, decked out in rock star garb and rocking out to her iPod. Here’s what I said:

Me: Hey! You look like Axl Rose!

Her: Who’s Aska Rose???

I was tempted to play some Guns N’ Roses for her but instead she rocked out to the Jonas Brothers (those adorable little moppets that I want to put in my pocket). I walked away thinking what I would have done at the age of five to have something even remotely close to an iPod. All I can recall is the radio and an old fashioned tape recorder that I used to tape songs FROM the radio. Remember that? I know I can’t be the only one that did that.

As for today, I was scheduled to sleep in a bit but then forgot that my daughter and I planned to cook breakfast this morning. So I dragged myself out of bed to make eggs and turkey bacon. It was delish! She is rocking out to her iPod again and I am still in my jammies! Not for long though because today I have a lovely day of girl things planned.

I am going to a Body Shop party where we get to soak our feet and try all the new stuff. Yes, it’s the same as the shop in the mall but they come to you! If you haven’t had one of these parties you should. They are so much fun. Afterward, my girlfriend and I are going to dinner and a movie. The movie? We plan to see Confessions of a Shopaholic. It’s based on the Kinsella book. It looks cute to me and I want something funny.

As for reading. I am reading The Sum of Our Days by Isabel Allende and also Drood by Dan Simmons. Both of which I am enjoying so far. I have another book that I am reading for my book group, Dreams From My Father but I am reading that right before I go to bed. I have so many that I need to read and I am trying to fit them all in.

Well, I better get off of here and get dressed. I really don’t want to as it is gloomy and about to rain (love it) but I don’t think my girlfriends would appreciate me showing up to this party looking like I just rolled out of bed.

What do you have planned for today?

Living Like The Cavemen

Southern California is getting pounded by a storm right now. Yesterday it poured and hailed nearly all day long. When I got home, the power was out and I was especially bothered by this because I had dinner in the Crock Pot AND I had just filled my fridge and freezer with food from the market.

I called Edison and apparently the power went out around noonish and there was no update and it was after 5pm. Not good. Plus, it was COLD. So we brought out the sleeping bags and lit a fire and managed to watch a movie on my laptop which died right before the end. Thank goodness for all the PartyLite candles that I bought last year. It may have been dark but the house smelled wonderful and the kids busied themselves with shadow puppets and their iPods. Okay, so we weren’t really “roughing it” with iPods and a laptop but a laptop with no WiFi? Now THAT’S roughing it.

I was also a bit miffed because I had about fifty pages left of Things I Want My Daughters To Know and I was unable to finish them in the dark. You just don’t realize how much you rely on modern conveniences until they are gone.

At about 3am, my alarm clock started to flash at me and the heater kicked on. I was so happy to not have to go into work with a wet head of hair. It’s hard to imagine anyone doing the “happy dance” at 3am but I did! I hope the downpour today does not cause any problems later.
