The Week Ahead: January 12-18, 2009

Since production week for The Music Man is right around the corner, this week is considered the calm before the storm. I love production week but it’s a lot of work for the kids and the parents that volunteer. It’s all worth it once the kids hit the stage though.

So here is my calm week:

Monday, January 12, 2009 – Nothing much going on at work. Still working on my two special projects. Should hopefully be done with one of them within the next few days. I’m planning to hit the gym today at lunch. Rehearsal tonight so I’m glad I have dinner cooking away in the Crock Pot. Gotta love the crock. I will probably read in the car while my son is at rehearsal. I’m alternating between The Terror and Loving Frank depending on my mood. When I get home, it’s me, my DVR and the continuation of the 24 premiere.

Tuesday, January 13, 2009
– Lunch with a co-worker. Nothing going on in the evening. I plan to sit and read with a cup of tea in hand. Updated: forgot to add that American Idol starts tonight. How could I could I have forgotten that?

Wednesday, January 14, 2009
– Meetings today. Always too many meetings. More rehearsal tonight too. I have to take script notes so no sitting in the car for me.

Thursday, January 15, 2009 – Today is the day the Freshman Common Reading panel meets to discuss the One Campus, One Book finalist. I have been looking forward to this meeting for months but I can’t go! I have a major project meeting and there is no way out of it. Instead, I must submit my recommendation in writing. It’s not what I wanted to do but it’s my only option.

Friday, January 16, 2009 – Nothing going on today except work and the gym. I may post a giveaway today as I’ve not done one in awhile. Looking forward to the three-day weekend.

The Weekend
– Saturday night is Father/Son night and it’s hosted by PTO so I will be there with my daughter doing whatever needs to be done. Sunday, nothing planned but I’ll probably be running around gathering props for the show.

What does your week look like? Anyone taking advantage of the three-day weekend to do some traveling?

Review: Twilight

I don’t think there is a living, breathing person on the planet that does not know what Twilight is about so I am going to spare you the synopsis and just gush over what I loved about it.

1. Stephanie Meyer did an excellent job of taking me back to the days of girlhood. All those awkward moments. The clumsiness. The teen crushes that you swore would make your heart break into two. It all came rushing back to me while reading about Bella and Edward’s romance.

2. I loved the dangerous quality of it all. Edward has that naughtiness that you know you need to stay away from, but can’t. Bella has that “forbidden fruit” thing going on. It’s an impossible relationship that you want to see work.

3. I loved the setting. The rainy, gloomy town of Forks. An ideal place for a family of vampires to live. They are isolated but sort of not, with Seattle just a stone’s throw away.

4. Edward has got to be the most charming vampire ever known. I mean, who would even care if they were bitten by someone like that? Not me.

5. I also loved the innocence of Bella. Fragile, beautiful and somewhat naive. I usually do not like femme fatales but for some reason, I didn’t mind her being saved all the time. She truly seemed to need it.

6. I enjoyed the family dynamic. Both Bella’s family and Edward’s. Two very different families for sure, but ones that I cared about.

I held out for a long time before picking the book up. I have this thing about reading blockbuster books when everyone else is reading them. I like to take my time… ease into it a bit. I’m also glad I haven’t seen the movie yet. I really wanted to read the book first so I could picture the characters in my mind without the movie influencing me.

As for it being geared towards young adults, I found the storyline to be appealing and I am forty-years-old! My son is ten, and although Bella and Edward’s relationship is mostly innuendos, I do feel that it might be a bit much for a ten-year-old, unless that ten-year-old is more on the mature side.

Overall, it was thoroughly enjoyable and I cannot wait to read New Moon.
