July Didn’t End Well

It occurred to me that none of you know what happened to me so here’s the sorry update.

On Monday, 7/21 I began to feel just horrible. All over body aches. Pain on one side. I just could not make it through the day.

By Wednesday I was worse, holding my left side and struggling with fevers off and on. Kidney stones. I’ve had surgery for them before so I upped my fluids, by a lot and hoped for the best.

By Friday, just a couple days later I was confined to bed, tossing and turning, could not get comfortable and the fever was back. I knew at this point that I needed a doctor but could not even stand.

I was so irritated because my daughter was coming home in a few days and I had stuff to do!

This pain in my side was DOZENS of stones and a major infection that put me in sepsis. Immediately admitted for surgery and IV antibiotics.

Hospital POV.

TWO days hospitalized. Get out, get home, implanted device falls out! Hospitalized a second time!! Another surgery!

Today, it is Friday and I was just discharged again. I have to take it super easy so that this device stays in and this infection goes on its merry way. I’m out of sepsis now but still taking antibiotics in pill form.

I’ve lost an entire week. To put some humor on this, at the shift change last night, one of the nurses walked past and did a double take.

“You, again?”

Ha. Sadly, yes.

So that’s where I’v been. Still recovering but alive.

  1. So sorry to read this Ti. How terrible and scary. Take it easy – sending positive vibes your way. Diane D

  2. Oh Ti! I am so sorry to hear what you’ve been dealing with. I do hope the device stays in and does its job.

Did your daughter visit? Were you able to enjoy your time with her?

  4. I’m hoping I am not posting two comments 🙂

I am so sorry to hear that you are dealing with both kidney stones AND sepsis! Totally scary.

Has your daughter visited yet? If she did, I hope you were able to enjoy your time with her and if she hasn’t, I hope you feel better by the time she gets there.

    1. I completely missed my daughter’s airport arrival because I passed out at the hospital! She is here until Oct but then leaving for NYC. Actually, she just told me she is going to NYC for two weeks to look for an apt with her roomies so I have hardly seen her!

Except, she drove me home from the hospital, in my car, and drove across the 405 like something out of Tokyo Drift. I thought I was a goner. LOL.

      1. I am so glad she is there for an extending amount of time. It’s so great having my daughter here this week!

I do hope your health is getting better and that it feels good to be home!

  6. Oh my goodness, Ti! You have had such a rough time in the past couple of years, and now this. Yikes. It sounds awful. I’ve never had a kidney stone, but I can imagine how terrible it must feel. I’m glad you’re finally home, and I hope you are able to enjoy your daughter’s visit. Take good care of yourself.

    1. I have had kidney stones before. They are horrible and indescribable but this time one blocked my kidney and then my other kidney couldn’t keep up. Hence, sepsis. It was a mess!

So much better now. It was seriously all a blur.

  7. So sorry to hear this. You’ve sure had a rough time lately! My ex had them and he said it was worse than any pain he ever had. I hope your daughter made it and that you got to do some fun things with her.

    1. My daughter is here now but she is out and about, auditioning for things so we haven’t really seen each other all that much.

I am better now. Not yet 100% but so much better. Got some good reading in since that’s all I could do.

Otter Pup is doing okay with my daughter’s cat. Jinx seems to know that my pup is not well and just cautiously follows her around. I did catch them sleeping together once! But Jinx HATES me with a passion and attacks me when she sees me.

      1. Glad you’re doing a bit better and hopefully it will get even better soon and glad the Pup is doing ok

Cats are weird! I have two and one is calm as can be and the other one can be all cuddly and wanting to be rubbed one minute and swatiting my hand away the next.

  8. Sorry to hear about the kidney stones and the surgeries but glad you are back on your feet!

I am such a wuss that the first sign of trouble – like pain, unexplained fevers or aches and pains, I head to the Urgent Care center which most often sends me to the ER. I try to nip things in the bud before they get too too serious!

    Happier days ahead!

    1. I tried!! Four days of pain and then 7 hours in urgent care but they missed the sepsis part. I am almost 100% now. Still lagging a bit but definitely past the pain and infection.

  9. So sorry to hear about your kidney stone events, Ti. My husband had had those. Hope your daughter’s visit is still a good one. Will keep you in my prayers. Hugs.

    1. Thanks for asking! I am much better now. Did they get the stones? I do not understand this type of surgery. I had three surgeries in four days but no, what they did was blast them but left them to pass on their own. To date, nothing has passed but I am no longer dying or have sepsis so I am much better. I have suffered from this once before in 2023 but the addition of sepsis and E coli were the icing on the cake.

Sepsis is rough!! The IV antibiotics were not working initially. That was not great news and why they kept re-admitting me.
