I spent the afternoon at the bookstore. I went there to pick up The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone. I have been flirting with becoming a vegan for awhile now but haven’t made the plunge quite yet. Her recent appearance on Oprah has the book flying off the shelves. So much so that it’s sold out! If anyone has any connection to Rodale Press, let me know. I requested a copy but I may just order it online.

I love this new cover of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Penguin is doing such an excellent job with these covers. I’ve read the book many times and own several copies yet I want to own this one too, just because of the cover!

Then there’s this lovely version of Island by Aldous Huxley. I love this reprint by HarperCollins.

Then there’s this one. The Glass Room by Simon Mawer. I know this cover is simple in its back and white splendor but it’s so mysterious. It makes me want to plop down in the corner of this store and read it. Right now.

Except…
It’s Sunday and the kids are with me and my daughter and I just finished reading four books by Mo Willems so now she is all antsy and ready to be on her way. Looks like I will be ordering some books online later.
Not much else going on. I am cooking a delicious Tofurky roast for dinner along with mashed potatoes and vegan gravy. We’ll see what The Hub and kids think of it. Homework is done so it’s just me and my books. Which is exactly how I like it.
I have a couple of vegetarian cookbooks, and the food is always delicious but it is a LOT of work!!! Even though I love it, I’m kind of too lazy for it now! :–)
That Island cover looks like art by Eric Carle!
And good luck with the Vegan thing. I hope you like beans! (I think you need lots of beans for protein.)
I hope that a vegan diet will help you, Ti. I have that copy of Island, and I love it, too.
I hope you enjoyed your Sunday!
It sounds like I need to order the Alicia Silverstone book for my sister. I love the Huckleberry Finn cover too!
I saw the Oprah show with Michael Pollan and Alicia Silverstone. Wow, that’s amazing that her book is so hard to find now. Have you checked out Joel Fuhrman’s books Eat for Health? A friend recommended them and it’s mostly vegan. Fuhrman is an MD and has a website you can check out. How was the tofurky and how did the family like it?
I am drawn to The Glass Room, the cover is alluring and the story sounds wonderful.
I’ve not read Eat for Health but I am checking it out online now.
Forgot to mention…the Tofurky wasn’t bad. It didn’t taste like turkey at ALL but it was okay tasting. Very filling.
Nothing better than a day at the bookstore. Maybe you might like to join a new group at Yahoo…1001 Children’s Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up. I joined earlier this month. Fun.
Your post reminds me how long it’s been since I’ve gone to an actual bookstore! I need to remedy that very soon (or not – I have way too many books as it is!)
My daughter wanted to try going vegan a while back (she’s been a vegetarian for three years) but I can’t get her to eat enough alternate protein as it is so there’s no way dairy is going out of her diet.
Good luck with maybe switching over to vegan cooking. It would probably be a lot better on the joints and other issues that go along with some of our problems I would imagine. I’ve often thought of getting rid of a bunch of things out of my diet that they say makes joint pain worse. One of these days I will! Hope you had a good week Ti. Sorry I’m late here – have a bit of a sick dog again.
