The Sunday Salon: May 17, 2009

Last week was a crazy work week. I spent much of the week putting out fires and it left me crabby and completely worn out. However, last night I got to go out to dinner and a movie with a girlfriend. We went to a yummy Japanese restaurant and sat at the Teppan grill (where they cook your food right in front of you). I had the salmon and it was soooo good.

After dinner we saw Angels and Demons. It’s based on the book by Dan Brown and is the continuation of The Da Vinci Code but completely stands on its own. It was very good but I was a tad disappointed with some of it. Having not read the book, I don’t know if it was close to the book or not but if anyone saw the movie and read the book, I have a question for you about the ending.

Today the sky is blue but I sure hope it’s not 105 degrees like it was yesterday. On top of the heat, my daughter woke with a fever but is acting perfectly fine. She’s obviously fighting something. Hope she wins the fight so she can go to school tomorrow.

I just finished a novel that I was really looking forward to reading but it sort of fell apart for me. I will be posting that review tomorrow. As for the rest of the day, we are just going to take it easy. Maybe we’ll head out for pizza later but for now, I am just sitting here half dressed catching up on my blog reading and finishing up one other book. Why am I half dressed? Because when your daughter wakes with a fever and is whiny, you end up getting interrupted 2-3 times on your way to the closet. Heck, I still have a towel on my head.

What’s on your plate today?

  1. We’re going to see the movie later today. I read the book a couple of years ago, and can’t remember a thing about it, except that I raced through it. I’m interested to find out if reading the movie brings back the book to me!

  2. I read Angels and Demons years ago and don’t remember too much about it. I think I read that they changed the ending for the movie.

  3. I was thinking of going to see Angels and Demons today. I enjoyed the book when I read it.

I LOVE Teppanyaki! One of my favorite dining experiences!

  4. I can understand that putting out fires and tending to sick kids can definitely wear you down. Take care of yourself and try to take some time out for you sometime today.

  5. Your dinner and a movie night sounds great! I read Angels & Demons a year or so ago (ran out of books on a flight and had to borrow from hubby's) and would be happy to try to answer question about the ending.

Hope your daughter is feeling better and that it never approaches 105 outside. That is WAY too hot.

  6. I will be doing a lot of packing today. I had hoped to start earlier, but when my baby napped, I napped along and just woke up. Lol. It’s dinnertime.

  7. I am so sorry about your daughter Ti–I hope she licks this bug fast. And hello! 105 degrees? No thank you mam on that one. You want to see me cranky? Those temperatures would do it for me.
I can relate to the work crud. My work place has had an unusually tense atmosphere lately. We are having extreme growing pains and some big changes are coming. People don’t like the unknown.
I hope this week goes better for you—

  8. Hope your daughter is feeling better Ti. It’s disappointing when a book lets you down like that. I just finished The Laws of Harmony and was blown away by it. It was so good. Those are the kinds of books I wish I’d get more often. Hope you have a better week this week!

  9. I read Angels and Demons.. but so long ago.. I didn’t remember the ending. I think it was changed. Just like Da Vinci Code ending was changed. I still liked the movie ALOT.. I LOVED the book. But still will always cringe at the violence in the book.. as that is hard on me. ………. so I am not sure that I remembered that particular ending. There was other stuff changed right from the beginning.. or maybe not changed.. just not mentioned. Also there was a missing romantic thingy with Robert and Vittoria.. that bites.. 🙂

  10. I though Angels and Demons came before the Da Vinci Code…LOL

I have not seen the movie yet, but its on the to-do list

  11. I never read Angels & Demons, after reading Davince Code I had enough! Your dinner out sounded wonderful! Hope that your daughter is doing better today. I can understand my son was sick over the weekend and missed two days of school last week. It totally throws off the schedule.

  12. Yes, 105* is way too hot for May and to fight a fever on top of that would be yucky. Hope your daughter is feeling better today.

I live in central CA so our weather is usually the same as “down south” and occasionally hotter in the summer and cooler in the winter. But I don’t mind the heat if there is a pool nearby.

  13. Have you read Caspian Rain yet? I just wrote a spectacularly lousy review for later in the week.

  14. I hope that your daughter is feeling better! I totally understand about being half-dressed. My hair only gets done sporadically because of the interruptions of life. That’s why I love hats. 🙂

  15. I think the Angels & Demons book did come out first. I'm not sure whether I'll see this one; I was disappointed by the DaVinci Code movie, though I thought the book was pretty good.

  16. I’m laughing at the thought of you sitting at the computer with a towel on your head!

I come downstairs (and turn on the laptop and the coffeemaker, in that order!) around 6:45 after a shower. I finally get upstairs again to “dry” my hair after the kids are all off to school, about 8:15 … it’s my weekday routine (no towel though, I comb it out and let it start to dry. thick hair. TMI?)
