The Library Police

I respect library institutions. I vist them often. I treat the books that I check-out as if they are my own. I never crease the bindings and never, never fold down the pages. However, this month I am a bit behind on my reading of Infidel, by Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Today, I am officially overdue. I know… SHUDDER! I am never overdue! I would renew, but there is a title level hold on it and they won’t allow me to renew it. I considered just turning it back in, but I’ll never get it back before my book club meets to discuss it. So… I am keeping it! I know… living in sin.

However, it did remind me of this Seinfeld episode. It takes a bit to get going but this scene always cracks me up. I FEARED the library police when I was younger.

  1. I have not read this book yet, but if I was in the same boat as you, I would probably be keeping it until I finished reading it–it seems like the message of the book is too important to just stop reading halfway through. You will have to let us know what you think of it when it’s done!

  2. lol Ti. I’ve only done it once myself-kept a book. I was almost done. I was lucky that they didn’t charge me. I would do the same as you-watch out for those library police though-lol.

  3. *Infidel* is fantastic (especially the first 2/3 in my opinion). Keep the book to finish reading it, walk into the library with your head held high and hand over the late fee when you return the book (beat them to it … there’s nothing worse than going to check out and hearing “there’s $1.80 due on your account” … that’s embarrassing!)
