GIVEAWAY! – Tethered, by Amy MacKinnon

Tethered, by Amy MacKinnon, was sent to me as part of the Read it Forward program. Here is the blurb from Barnes & Noble:

Clara Marsh is an undertaker who doesn’t believe in God. She spends her solitary life among the dead, preparing their last baths and bidding them farewell with a bouquet from her own garden. Her carefully structured life shifts when she discovers a neglected little girl, Trecie, playing in the funeral parlor, desperate for a friend.

It changes even more when Detective Mike Sullivan starts questioning her again about a body she prepared three years ago, an unidentified girl found murdered in a nearby strip of woods. Unclaimed by family, the community christened her Precious Doe. When Clara and Mike learn Trecie may be involved with the same people who killed Precious Doe, Clara must choose between the stead-fast existence of loneliness and the perils of binding one’s life to another.

This book is really good and it took me outside of my comfort zone a bit. You can read my review here. In honor of Halloween, I am giving away my gently used (very gently used) ARC of Tethered. PLEASE NOTE: The cover image is different from what you see above.

This giveaway is open to the U.S. and Canada. There are TWO ways to enter:

1. Post a comment for ONE entry but to make it interesting, tell me what you like about Halloween the most. The candy? The costumes? The scary movies? Entries that do not answer this question will not be counted. Be sure to include an email address as well so I can contact you.

2. For THREE more entries, post about this giveaway on your blog and then include the link in a comment to this post.

This giveaway will run until Thursday, October 30, 2008, 8pm (PST). The winner will be selected randomly and announced on Halloween. I will contact the winner for his/her mailing address. Good luck!!!

Teaser Tuesdays – October 21, 2008

TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:

1. Grab your current read.

2. Let the book fall to a random page.

3. Share with us two teaser sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.

4. Share the title of the book.

5. Avoid spoilers.

Here goes:

“Even Amnesty International didn’t keep statistics on how many women around the world were victims of honor killings. They could tell you how many men were imprisoned and tortured, but they couldn’t keep tabs on the number of women flogged in public for fornication, or executed for adultry.”

Infidel, by Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Yes, I am STILL reading this. I have not had time to read at all but I am really liking it. Well, as much as you can like a book with this subject matter.
