Sunday Matters: Reading Frenzy

Sunday Matters

I’m not big on reading goals but last year’s modest goal was missed by half. FAIL! This year, I am just working my way through all my review copies and so far, so good. I am about to begin book four of the year. I am also sprinkling in buzzy reads to keep my interest up.

Right Now:

My first week back was pretty good. By the end of the week I was grumpy and my body hurt from sitting all day long. It’s like my body forgot how to do that. But a lot of people were out so I was able to return without a fuss. Nice and quiet. That said, this mama is tired this morning. I am volunteering in a bit but the rest of the day is mine.

Also, my daughter had her first behind-the-wheel driving lesson this morning!

This Week:

Ladies and gents, we have hit production week #1 for Annie. Each show, we get better at handling it. This time, because of my daughter’s role, she needs to be at the theatre so early that it conflicts with school. This presents a problem for the obvious reason but also because she still isn’t driving on her own. We will get through it. The managing of meals, transportation and the like need to be handled day by day or it’s too overwhelming for her and I to figure out.

Reading:

I am about to pick book #5 of the year. It will probably be this one, The Other Mrs. Miller by Allison Dickson.

The Other Mrs. Miller

Watching:

I haven’t been able to watch anything.

New Things I’ve Tried:

I am not big into makeup but the one thing I must have is mascara and I don’t like to pay a lot of money for it. The last brand I had, Lash Paradise made my lashes so clumpy. The wand was totally lame and did nothing to separate,  just added huge clumps to my lashes.

So, the other day in desperation I picked up a cheap, Cover Girl brand (Clump Crusher) and so far, it’s pretty darn good. I love the wand. No raccoon eyes.

Grateful for:

Bright blue skies.
Crisp mornings.
Page-turning reads.

How is your weekend going?

  1. I hear you on the back to work achiness. I had the beginnings of a tension headache by 10:30 a.m. on my first day back and thought the same as you — my body forgot how to sit all day (even though I did my fair share of that on the couch over the holidays).

  2. Getting back to work after a nice break is never easy. I hope this week is better for you.

Because of the problems with my eyes, I avoid mascara. I never look “made up” but it is what it is.

  3. Are you teaching your daughter to drive? 🙂

We’ve been having rain here, but it’s been warm (60 degrees even). Weekend, otherwise, is going well. Got out of town yesterday and today, reading, reading, and more reading….and oh, commenting on blogs, but of course.

    1. Glad back to work was a quiet one for you, especially with your body aching. That’s so great she had her first driving lesson behind the wheel! Hope you have a great week.

    2. Our here, when I kid gets their permit, it’s not valid until they take paid, behind-the-wheel lessons so she is taking lessons with a professional but now that he signed off on her first lesson we can take her out for practice. It’s incredibly hard to just get in a car, without ever being in the driver’s seat and just drive. He took her on all the roads at 50MPH in traffic. She was upset afterward thinking she should have known more but because of how the law is structured you really aren’t supposed to know anything besides the stuff in the booklet.

  4. Funny how sometimes the cheaper version of something (make up, lotions, etc in particular) is just as good if not better than the expensive brands. Good luck with the behind-the-wheel lessons!

  5. It sounds like you had a fairly easy first week back to work. That is always a plus, I think. I hope your daughter enjoyed her first driving lesson! That’s such a big step! I am glad to hear Annie is going well! I understand the whole conundrum of trying to fit in meals and transportation and such . . . I feel for you both!

I hope you have a great week, Ti.

    1. She hated the driving lesson. Ooof.

Yep. Tonight I have a short window to get food into her. Between 5:45pm-6pm. And because of singing all sorts of special needs like nothing cold, no dairy, no grease, not a lot of bread.

  6. Last week was ok work wise until Friday when something I knew would not go well finally hit the fan, but as I was not in charge of the change to the article I turned in and wasn’t really given a choice, there’s not much I can do about it or the interviewee’s disappointment.

As for the weekend, it was super busy with a swim meet and my first time officiating as an apprentice. That was very hectic as they were short-handed and I had to do more than I would have as a first time apprentice. Eek. I’m glad that trial by fire is over. But I still have 5 more sessions to do before I can be certified.

Other than that, I’m behind on my Yoga challenge, but I’m ok with that and doing what I can when I can.

And I finally finished my first book of 2020 and it was stunning.

    1. I had to work track meets when my daughter was in track and I honestly didn’t know what the hell I was doing. These faces would just look up at me with such trust and I was like, hoping I didn’t botch something up. It’s stressful! So I can relate to your experience.

  7. My first week back at work was no better. By Thursday morning, I couldn’t believe there was still more of the week left. Hope you are able to ride out the work tensions and have it settle down soon enough.

I can’t believe your daughter is almost driving age now! How did she grow up so fast? I’m sure you are wondering the same as well…
