The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly
Friday Finds is hosted by Should Be Reading.
The blurb from the publisher:
The summer of 1899 is HOT in Calpurnia Virginia Tate’s sleepy Texas town, and there aren’t a lot of good ways to stay cool. Her mother has a new wind machine from town, but Callie might just have to resort to stealthily cutting off her hair, one sneaky inch at a time. She also spends a lot time at the river with her notoriously cantankerous grandfather, an acid naturalist. It turns out that every drop of river water is teeming with life – all you have to do is look through a microscope!
As Callie explores the natural world around her, she develops a close relationship with her grandfather, navigates the dangers of living with six brothers, and comes up against just what it means to be a girl at the turn of the century.
Sounds like a fun book. Sort of different from what I normally read but could be very refreshing! Also, I absolutely LOVE the cover.

Yes, it has a great cover. Sounds promising too!
Friday Find: Prince Rupert's Teardrops
This does sound interesting Ti…and the cover is a combination of both dark and bright this time! lol
I saw this somewhere else this morning. It does sound good and I totally agree-I love the cover.
I want that book for the cover alone!
This sounds good – it almost sounds like an American Girl sort of book!
What a great cover!

This totally sounds like something I would read. But with that cover, it is a shoo in…I have to have that book. What a little imp—cutting her hair slowly! 😉
