Why Must Vacations End?

The coaster that The Boy lives for!

Last week was Spring Break and it was lovely. We spent our first day at a theme park. The Boy rode every coaster known to man. So much so, that he was GREEN for the car ride home. The Girl rode one coaster three times and of course The Hub, had to go with her. I used to love a good roller coaster but this body just can’t take them anymore. Being tossed around and twisted into a formless mass of goo is not my idea of fun. Instead, I was in charge of the bags and if lucky, got to sneak in a few pages of We Need to Talk About Kevin every now and then. Speaking of which, that was one hell of a book and my mind is still reeling from it. Review to come.

The next day we headed out to Palm Desert. It was nice. Only 85 or so which was pretty much how it was at home so that was good. The Otter Pup did well on the car trip and she was a GEM at the place where we stayed. She was reintroduced to her crate after not being in one for over 6 months so that was interesting, but she took to it well. When we visited the in-laws, she was a bit of a bully with their 10-year-old Italian Greyhound but overall, she was very good. She is a cheeky little monkey!

All in all, we didn’t do anything special. I read, and I watched HGTV non-stop. It was perfect!! The kids bowled and swam and played golf. We also went to see a theatrical production one night which we all enjoyed. The entire week was very relaxing. I have no pictures! Why? Because I was a complete slug and didn’t feel like packing my big camera. I have my phone, but lately it’s been freezing up so I have no pictures to share. I do need to get you a photo or video of the Otter Pup soon as she is almost 2 years old now. Can you believe it? You all met her when she was just a pup. Now she is all set in her ways and quite the pistol! Just like The Girl.

After my lovely week,  Monday came. Ugh. I spent most of the day catching up. I am all caught up with work, but not caught up at home so hopefully this weekend I will be able to do what I haven’t been able to do thus far…write! Oh, the reading is no problem, but I am still several reviews behind and what’s stopping me is one book that I really don’t know what to say about. Hint, it’s not We Need to Talk About Kevin. I have plenty to say about that one but this one showstopper left a bad taste in my mouth, yet there were things about it that I liked quite a bit. Plus, I see no other bloggers talking about it so it was either a real stinker or it is just a tough one to write about.

Someone explain the Independent Blogger Awards to me. I’ve never even heard of it before today. How did those blogs get nominated?

Okay, enough of my rambling. Back to work I go. Uh…yeah.

  1. Your week sounded wonderful and just what you needed…I can’t wait to hear about the book..not the Kevin book…the other one…no clue about the award thing…but I am always clueless…glad you are back!!!

  2. That sounds like a great vacation. I never think to use my phone to take photos.

The bloggers in the Independent Blogger Awards are self nominated – they’re vying for a trip to BEA.

    • I would have liked a trip to BEA but I am not an award gal. I never heard anyone talking about it. Probably one of those things where you have to be on Twitter 24/7 to know about it.

  3. I am in the dark about the blogger awards too. Glad I am not the only one. Sounds like you had a perfect vacation!

  4. I agree with Kathy – you had a wonderful vacation! One of those relaxing weeks would be perfect for me now.

  5. sounds like a wonderful way to spend spring break!! My son visited his cousins and grandparents. The hubby and I were able to experience life with no kids for a week!!

  6. WordPress hates me…I think my comment went to spam!

  7. Sounds like an absolutely fabulous vacation! Is Palm Desert near Palm Springs? I’ve always wanted to go there.

Also, I’m with on the Blogger Awards thing – where did these come from?!

  8. Your vacation sounded so relaxing (minus the amusement park)…LOL Glad the family had a great time. (so curious about the “bad taste” book you read and haven’t reviewed.

  9. At least The Boy didn’t hurl (did he??). I like roller coasters, but not to the point of being green!

  10. Sounds like you had a wonderful week!

I also can’t wait to read your thoughts on Kevin. Can you believe I read it? I had to read it really fast to avoid thinking about it too much. The part with the eyeballs… creepy wierd!

    • I think I was down to the last 20 pages thinking, “this isn’t so bad” and then wham…the ending. I can’t believe you got through it!

  11. Sounds like a great week to me. I can’t wait for vacation.

  12. Don’t you just love vacations? It almost doesn’t matter what you do, just as long as you sleep in and aren’t working. I do love my roller coasters, but 10 or 15 years ago, I would ride them over and over and over again. Now I must limit myself to once or twice a ride. Ha! Scrambles my brains.

As far as these awards, I’m not belittling anyone from nominating themselves because hey, if you win, you get a trip to BEA. Worth the effort. But I have no stomach for self-promotion – it makes me feel skeezy. I can’t go to BEA anyway, and I’m not on Goodreads. Seems pretty marketing-driven.

    • Not big on self-promotion either but in this case, I can see why they are doing it.

As for those coasters…I know you are always hitting them yourself. I am more into theme rides like Space Mountain or Indiana Jones.

  13. Sounds like you had a good time. I hate the end of vacation…I always need a vacation from the vacation!

    • I normally build-in a vacation from the vacation, but this time I couldn’t since I promised to cover for a coworker. I am slowly coming to. Still not caught-up though!

  14. Ti, I’m jealous! Your vacation sounded just perfect – nothing but relaxation ;) Glad you had such a wonderful time and shared about it with us. I can’t believe your dog is almost 2 – wow! Also, what is this book you are alluding to – the one that left a “bad taste”? I am dying with curiosity – please, tell me! Oh, and I’m really looking forward to your Kevin review. Ciao!

  15. I would be right there with you relaxing with my feet on the ground! I’m glad great fun was had by all!

  16. What a wonderful Spring Break. Our’s (my son was SBreaking it last week too) was super relaxing too. My boy child went up to Santa Barbara for the last part of it to visit his sister. I was way more bummed that his break was over than mine was over. I’ve got to know what book you’re talking about. is it one of the books you’ve mentioned before? What, what is it? I need to know. hehehe

  17. We just got back from vacation too and I didn’t want it to end … other than I missed my Romeo (who had a heck of a good time at the dog sitters). I do want to see the Otter Pup!! 2 years already? WOW! Time flies.

    • Did Romeo stay with family or did he go to a dog spa or something? Our pup did not eat for three days while we were on vacation and she was with us!! Finally, on day four she began to eat out of necessity. But she never acted weak or anything. Quite the opposite. Her routine was just way off with us sleeping in so late (yes! my kids sleep in now!).

  18. I don’t like roller coasters at all, but my husband loves them. I always have to be the one holding the bags and the drinks, so I feel ya. It does sound like you had an incredibly relaxing week, which is wonderful and just what the doctor ordered. I am now curious about this unnamed book, and can’t wait to hear what you have to say about it.

The blog awards also are news to me. I just started hearing about them yesterday!

  19. Your vacation week sounds great! I like roller coasters although its been years since I rode one. But I love Space Mountain, could ride that forever! Does your son think the roller coasters were worth turning green?!

PD sounds wonderful, reading and HGTV so nice, no wonder it’s hard to get back into work.

I’m so curious about the book you’re having difficulty writing about – good luck with it! (I’m trying to recall the books that have been listed on your sidebar!)

I’m behind on everything, fighting a cold so I’m constantly tired

  20. Now I’m all interested in what that ‘showstopper’ is. Can’t wait for all your reviews, Ti. Also, I notice you’re reading Maugham’s The Moon and Sixpence. It’s been a long time TBR for me, still haven’t the chance to. Interested in your view of it too. And oh BTW, your Boy is one little brave! Just look at that enormity of a ride and he wants to go up there?

    • The Boy plans to be a roller coaster engineer or Disney Imagineer so all of these rides are research to him. The book in question… The Orphan Master’s Son. I just can’t get started on that review. It’s as if my review machine broke.

  21. A nice, relaxing vacation sounds perfect and I’m glad you all had a nice time. I can’t believe the Otter Pup is already going to be 2 – same as Sammy. It seems like just yesterday that you got her- it’s amazing how fast the time passes.

I’ll be watching for your thoughts on We Need to Talk About Kevin. I’ve seen reviews that are good and bad. I haven’t read it yet but do plan to.
